Flex that brain
A current buzzword in marketing is the ‘Challenger’ brand. Organisations (be they companies or families) thrive on challengers, because by challenging the prevailing logic we come up with new ideas, new ways of doing things. What does it take to be a challenger? By changing our attitude to that hardest of exercises — working our grey matter.
Salman Khan of the Khan Academy writes about the two types of mindsets – ‘fixed’ and ‘growth’, and how you can change your mindset and that of your co-workers (or children), through affirming behaviour that accepts challenges instead of settling for the safe path.
So, instead of saying “I’m no good at maths,” or “I can’t learn a new language,” we should challenge ourselves and do that which is hard, because only by struggling do we grow.
