Fun Friday: ‘Wailing Whale’

It’s Friday, so time for some Friday Fun.

Applied Arts magazine showcases young artists, and here is a fun stop-motion animation by final-year cinema student Laura Venditti.

On her Tumblr blog Venditti has some process photos showing the sets and the model construction. Stop-frame animation is a painstaking process, requiring 12 or 15 frames for every second of film shot. (Film runs at 24 frames per second, but animators will often use short-cuts like shooting double frames, or moving puppets in real-time).

The result is a fun 2-minute character-driven short film, that will bring a smile and get you ready for the weekend.
