20 Stupid Claims About Big Data
Every now and then I come across useful things on LinkedIn, and here’s something from Bernard Marr, who describes himself as a “Best-Selling Author, Keynote Speaker and Leading Business and Data Expert”. Well, everyone’s an expert these days, so let’s take that with a pinch of salt, but his article on ‘http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20-stupid-claims-big-data-bernard-marr’ is still worth taking a look at.
What I like is the fact that he emphasises the human factor. Yes, good systems, good applications, good data are in and of themselves important. But without the human brains to look at what the data is saying, figuring out how to apply it, and possibly spot errors and anomalies, that data is worthless.
There are some other, important misconceptions he picks apart in this article — definitely food for thought.
