Publicis Regroups to Avoid Silos
The past few years have seen a growth in international mega-advertising agencies — many of which have gobbled up top South African agencies. Usually the local agencies have retained their names and basic structure, but being part of an international group has brought about a change in the way they operate. And not always for the better.
Publicis Groupe has done a major restructure in order to move away from silos, by creating four new groups: Publicis Communications, Publicis Media, Publicis.Sapient and Publicis Healthcare. Adage states that the reorganisation is “essentially a move away from agency networks — such as Publicis Worldwide or Starcom MediaVest Group — because, the company said, it was moving away from silos as it works to offer more integrated services to its clients.”
I’m not convinced that these mega-agencies are good for advertising in general, but it’s important to note that they are interrogating their systems.
