Conquering the Fear of Public Speaking

Fear not the Microphone

For many (if not most) people, public speaking is something to be avoided — psychologists say it ranks up there with death, moving house and divorce as one of the most stressful things to have to go through. But often in business it’s a necessary evil, and the more you do it, the easier it becomes — and a little training can go a long way.

Monique Rissen-Harrisberg, founder and CEO of The Voice Clinic, has made a successful business out of teaching everyone from CEOs to telesales personnel how to speak with confidence. Rissen-Harrisberg started The Voice Clinic with R400 of her own money, as no-one would invest in it. Now the company has four branches in SA and more in Sydney and Melbourne.

Rissen-Harrisberg spoke to Financial Mail about how proper training in public speaking can be a life-changing experience — it’s a quick, 5-minute read.
